Tsimane Secure Lodge Hosted Trip Report – September 1st – 8th:
We had four anglers hosted to Bolivia this year for our second trip to Secure River Lodge. This place is special! The Chimane tribe waterman running the 20’ canoes and the very talented Argentine guides leading the way to the four beats along the Secure River and two tributary “spring creeks”. Large golden dorado and gigantic pacu are the treasures that we were there to find! This year, our second trip, was no exception. We found them in very challenging conditions with water at historic low levels and hot temperatures.

All of our anglers were able to land pacu, the jungle permit, herbivores that eat berries, vegetation as well as cicadas and baitfish patterns, which is a first for Secure! The dorado fishing was good, the bigger ones mainly piled up in the small rapids due to hot water temps. When we would catch them, all the other sizable fish would attack the fly in the fishes mouth or in predator style just try to eat the fish. This made for fish biting though leaders and fly lines, a very exciting experience to watch.

On the lower beat side on the lower Sécure River, the dorado were very interesting in hitting our black mouse/streamer patterns, which fish would roll, slap and sometimes crush the fly but not allows coming tight to the line. The biggest fish landed on our week was 18lbs dorado on the last day on the upper spring creek. The biggest pacu was also 18lbs on the midweek overnight spike camp on the upper Sécure well above the lodge. This was the best action both groups had – hiking up close to headwaters of the entire fishery.

One of the most beautful and pristine environments on earth! Everyone is excited to go back, the jungle has many things to see, both on and off the river – birds, four legged creatures, insects of all shapes, colors and sizes and most especially the fish! We are already looking to host trips for fall 2025!”

Untamed Angling is the only outfitter working within the Tsimane National Ingenious Park with 3 different lodges; Pluma on the on confluence of the Pluma and Secure, which hosts 8 anglers, Agua Negro, hosts 4 anglers for a remote smaller experience fishing in for big fish in small rivers and the Secure lodge.
