River Platte Anglers – Peacock Bass Fly Fishing: River Plate Anglers was one of the first pioneers of Peacock Bass fishing, beginning trips to the Amazon Jungle in 1992. Today, they run one of the most distinctive fishing trips up multiple rivers in the Amazon utilizing floating cabins. The floating cabin system that River Plate has personally engineered is the guiding principle behind their remarkable operation and product. The floating cabins only draw four inches of water, bypassing sandbars and allowing fishermen to access new stretches of water on a daily basis. While each day is spent on the water fishing, the cabins are moved to a new location, keeping overall fishing pressure to a minimum and providing a new background to dinner each night.
Floating Cabins & Accommodations
The floating cabin program is further enhanced by River Plate’s access to exclusive water. In 2002, River Plate Anglers was granted fishing permits to select Indian Reservations and Government Preserves by the Brazilian Government. Rather than fishing public water where commercial fishing operations and high volume traffic dilute the fish populations, River Plate is able to access over ten private rivers and fish hundreds of miles of unpressured water by moving the floating cabins each day.
First Class Service
The best aspect of River Plate’s floating cabins is they provide exclusive and exceptional fishing opportunities with little sacrifice of personal comforts. Each deluxe, air conditioned cabin has a private bathroom, carpeted floors and tasteful decorations. Breakfast room service, laundry service and satellite phone use are just a handful of amenities offered by the 16 member staff that includes a manager and a bilingual host.
The Peacock Bass
The fishing speaks for itself as there are over 18 different species of fish that call these waters home. This includes the primary target species – Peacock Bass, which has taken the fly fishing world by storm in the last two decades. The Peacock Bass is world renowned for their aggressive takes, intensely powerful runs and majestical color patterns. These fish are arguably pound for the pound the strongest freshwater species of fish, requiring 10 wt. rods and 40 lbs test leaders for targeting trophies. There is also the opportunity to catch a variety of other unique species that are specific to the Amazon Jungle such as the Arapaima and the Aruana.
Comfort in the Jungle
Fly fishing the Amazon Jungle for a fish as sporty as the Peacock Bass is a one of a kind experience. River Plate Anglers has put together a trip that provides the best and most flexible opportunity to see an absolutely amazing part of the world, catch a special variety of fish, and feel like you are on a true adventure all while staying comfortable. There are few operations that can provide that type of travel experience.
