Fly Fishing Idaho's Henry's Fork River - WorldCast Anglers

Henry’s Fork on the Snake River

Nicknamed the “Graduate School of Fly-Fishing for Ph.D. Trout,” the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River is a cornerstone of Western fly fishing and a must-visit destination for anglers who demand world class dry fly fishing experiences. Winding through high plains and volcanic canyons, the river combines textbook trout habitat with breathtaking scenery, making every cast feel like a lesson and every hookup a graduation-worthy achievement. But the river offers much more than the celebrated Railroad Ranch.

Any Type of Water

Fly fishing Idaho’s Henry’s Fork delivers every type of water a fly angler could want. Below Island Park Reservoir, the Box Canyon offers relentless tailwater fishing for rainbow trout in fast, boulder-strewn pocket water. The Last Chance and Railroad Ranch reaches provide some of the world’s finest sight fishing and headhunting opportunities. Downstream of Lower Mesa Falls, brown trout join the rainbow trout, adding fire to the riffles, rapids and pools from the Warm River confluence to Ashton — and continuing through the tailwater stretches from Vernon downstream to St. Anthony.

Insect Paradise

The Henry’s Fork is an aquatic insect paradise. Blue-winged olives, midges, and caddisflies provide shoulder season angling opportunities across the river’s lower reaches. The earliest Salmonfly hatch in the Yellowstone ecosystem begins in May around St. Anthony and works its way upstream toward Island Park Dam. Prolific mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, midges and a wide variety of terrestrials dominate and occur throughout the entire river system through each angling season.

Unique River

One of the world’s most distinctive rivers in the Rocky Mountain West, the Henry’s Fork is a must fish for any angler. Spend a day on the Henry’s Fork with WorldCast Anglers and you’ll understand why the “Henrys” is celebrated as one of the planet’s greatest and most storied fisheries.
