Fishpond Sushi Roll Review WCA Guide Tested: Every season, new fly fishing gear and tackle floods fly shops and the online world hoping to grasp the attention of anglers and customers. As a fly shop, we recognize it’s hard to differentiate between the plethora of angling gear choices. So, we put the gear in the hands of those that demand the most and the best, our WCA Fly Fishing Guides. We picked our top new products in the WCA Fly Shop for the 2016 Fishing Season. We placed those items in the hands of our guides to wear, use, cast, fish, abuse and enjoy! Simply put, it’s gear that is WCA Guide Tested. From the Bahamas, to the South Fork of the Snake to the Teton Canyon, WCA Guide Curt Hamby is on the move so the Fishpond Sushi Roll is a perfect fit.
“Fishpond is the leader of well made bags, vests, packs and super innovative tools and accessories. The Sushi Roll is my new favorite. It is advertised for streamers and saltwater flies but I’m putting all flies in it for easy access. Also, because the foam ridges are high, I’m not seeing flies getting crushed and they dry out instead of sitting in a box staying wet. The Roll lays out flat for day use and rolls up securely in a 2 strap Velcro system for storage. The straps fold back on themselves and stay out of the way while the roll is laid out.
Included are 4 Velcro stickers that can be placed in your boat or back of your truck if just want to grab a few flies for a short evening hatch. I have mine laid up against the inside of my boat gunnels for easy access. I’m most impressed in how many flies you can put on the foam pad, they never come loose and it just made more room in my Fishpond boat bag by taking out several fly boxes. I’m already excited for my next saltwater trip, because the large Fishpond Sushi Roll will be the only “fly box” I take for bonefish, tarpon, permit and toothy fish flies and also an easy fit in my lumbar pack.”
