Inside the Mind – Chris Littauer WCA Destination Travel Trip Host:
WorldCast Anglers Vice President, Mike Dawkins, sits down with Chris Littauer, WCA Destination Travel Manager, for a peek inside the mind of a WorldCast Anglers Destination Travel Trip Host. Chris shares his passion for travel, his favorite fish to eat a fly and where he would go if the world was ending tomorrow!
MD: “What WCA Destination Travel locations have you fished and which destinations are your currently hosting trips to?”
CL: “I have fished New Zealand, Mongolia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Belize and the Bahamas. I am headed to St. Brandon’s Atoll this September. I couldn’t be more pumped to finally see the Indian Ocean and all of it’s fishing glory. I am currently hosting trips to Belize and Mongolia.”
MD: “I know this is a tough question to answer, but what is your favorite specie of fish to pursue on the fly? Why?”
CL: “Trout. I love the amazing settings where they live. The cold clean water they need to survive. And, the multitude of different ways to catch them.”
MD: “You live in one of the trout fishing meccas of the world. Some people would think it’s crazy to leave this paradise and chase fish across the globe. Why do you do it?”
CL: “Traveling is fun regardless of fishing. When you add a fishing component, it becomes epic. The learning element attracts me the most to fishing travel. Every specie of fish has unique tendencies and qualities that demand different skills. For my money fly fishing is one the greatest sports on earth because you can never stop learning.”
MD: “What is your favorite memory or story from a destination travel fishing trip?”
CL: “Sight fishing to a 38 inch Taimen in a two foot flat on the crystal clear Delger River in Mongolia last summer. Spotting the fish, casting a few different flies and then finally seeing it chase a “Chilean Goat” streamer for 15 feet before eating is a memory I will never forget. The fish was gorgeous!”
MD: “What is the number one piece of advice you would give someone who is just getting into destination travel fishing?”
CL: “Be as prepared as you can possibly be. Do your research about gear and flies by asking the professionals who have been to the location. Practice your casting, stripping and line management. Having the right gear and an appropriate skill foundation can be the difference between a good and great trip.”
MD: “The world ends in two weeks and you have one final destination to fish before you die. Where do you go?”
CL: “Bolivia to catch Golden Dorado. That fishing and setting has captured my imagination.”
