Hoppers are Here, fish are looking for them, and we’re excited about it. Hopper fishing is almost like a second salmonfly hatch – big foam dry flies bringing up big, hungry fish. Splat them, twitch them dead drift them, just figure out what’s making the fish tick on that particular day and you are in for some big fun. PMD’s are still hatching on most of the riffles on the South Fork. Size down your leaders/tippets and bring a variety of patterns to imitate the different life-cycle stages. and prepare to change flies early and often. We should see good hopper fishing through August as hatches dwindle and fish turn to terrestrials as their main source of food. Enjoy this fishing while you can, fall is just around the corner…
